Such industry unprecedented flexibility offered in a single board is based on Tahoe's "soft programmability" from the PCI host and on the use of standard pluggable SFP transceivers. The universal SFP cages allow Tahoe to support any line distance or transmission media/wavelength offered by the wide choice of standard SFP transceivers. Tahoe employs innovative high bandwidth parallel processing logic, which allows its performance to remain constant regardless of the intensity of the on-line network traffic. This leaves the overall processing speed dependent only on the Host PCI motherboard processing capabilities. Tahoe is a standard half-size PCI NIC supporting 64bit/66MHz PCI and PCI-X bus interfaces.

NetQuest's Tahoe board is a universal high-speed WAN/LAN NIC for network access and monitoring applications in converged networks. It is designed for network traffic access, filtering, capture, analysis, and processing. The Tahoe board may be configured to support ATM or POS IP WAN traffic on OC3/STM-1 and OC12/STM-4 SONET/SDH lines, or it may support Ethernet LAN IP traffic on 10/100/1000 BaseT or 1000 BaseSX / 1000 BaseLX Ethernet lines.
